Welcome to Una Hwang’s piano studio webpage!  I am a private piano teacher in University Place, classically trained as a pianist and organist, and also active as a solo and collaborative performer.  Find out more about me here.

I love to help growing pianists find and express the music inside them.  Making music is an activity that develops the whole person and involves the whole brain.  It can be a life-long source of joy and growth.  I work on developing good reading and aural skills, a healthy technique, and excellent musicianship.   Good, relaxed technique enables expressive music-making and full control of the piano sound.  A sense for musical phrasing requires an understanding of all the expressive, structural, and stylistic elements of music.  When all these things work together, you will make music at a higher level and find it fun and rewarding.

I expect committed practice and regular lesson attendance from my students, as well as participation in group classes and performances.  My goal is to help you make great progress at the piano every week, exploring the riches of the piano repertoire, and to give you the tools to make music independently for the rest of your life.

I welcome motivated students of all ages and levels. Contact me to explore whether I am the right teacher for you!
